Mission Statement
The
Macomb Immigrant Service Center (MISC) provides comprehensive human services
and advocacy and empowerment programs to foster and increase self-sufficiency
and independence among Hispanics and persons of other cultures in need
within
our community.
Overview
The
Macomb Immigrant Service Center (MISC) is a Recognized Organization by the
Department of Justice and serves Oakland, Macomb, St. Clair and Lapeer counties, as well as other outlying communities in Michigan. What began as a coalition of volunteers has grown into a
viable nonprofit, tax-exempt organization, providing critically needed human
services and advocacy programs. This is accomplished through numerous
empowerment initiatives and community collaborations.
MISC was created to address
the lack of culturally and linguistically effective programs for at-risk people
in need. The issue continues to be relevant as these populations grow and
providers in the community cannot respond effectively to the demands for
services that must be implemented through cultural and linguistic
understanding.
MISC staff members are multicultural and experienced in working effectively in a diverse setting.
Its dynamic volunteer board of directors is made up of talented physicians,
experienced corporate executives, accomplished attorneys and influential
community leaders who expertly guide the organization.
MISC
provides a wide variety of services and programs that help people in need
become active, well-educated and financially stable.
These programs include, but are not
limited to, the following:
>
Accredited Immigration Services >
Citizenship Classes
>
Basic & Advanced English Classes >
Interpretations
>
Conversational Spanish Classes > Translation of Documents
>
Financial Literacy / Fitness Classes >
Basic Computer Classes
>
Notary Public Services
